Joseph Ferraro, named as ambassador for Authentic Beauty Concept

Award-winning stylist and salon owner, Joseph Ferraro, has been named as the ambassador for Authentic Beauty Concept.

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Joseph has been based in the UK for 15 years. In that time, he has developed a well-earned reputation as a creative, inspirational hairdresser with a generous approach to education.

Based in the elegant spa town of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Joseph owns two eponymous salons, with a team of 15 stylists and colourists. As well as putting the area on the map with his acclaimed salons, Joseph confirmed his status as the region’s go-to hair expert when he won North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional.

Away from his business, Joseph is dedicated to education and developing his skills across all areas of hairdressing. A former member of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s prestigious F.A.M.E. Team, Joseph continues to mentor young hairdressers through the organisation’s education evenings and live shows. He is also a regular on stage at high-profile hairdressing events including Salon International and Pro Hair Live. Joseph also works backstage at London Fashion Week, and is a regular on shoots, shows and sets across the country.

A skilled cutter and colourist, Joseph’s work is all about effortless beauty with a gritty, modern edge – an aesthetic that reflects the combination of his Australian roots and Yorkshire home. This relaxed take on glamour and thoroughly modern approach to styling makes Joseph the ideal ambassador for Authentic Beauty Concept; a brand that’s all about celebrating the individuality and imperfections with a no-filter, fresh-faced approach to beauty.

“Authentic Beauty Concept is the perfect brand for me,” says Joseph. “It truly reflects my approach to fresh, modern beauty and the honest, no-nonsense take on products feels refreshing and relevant. I’m really looking forward to working with the range both in the salon and on set, and hope that I can inspire other stylists and salon owners to explore the range and create their own beautiful, modern hair.”

Wella’s Generation NOW

A group of five up and coming hairdressers have been chosen to create the new Generation NOW team for 2018/19. Generation NOW was launched eight years ago by Wella Professionals to discover rising stars hungry to make their mark in the world of hairdressing.

  • Rita Tuska, Joseph Ferraro
  • Richard Potts, Rage
  • Elizabeth Williams, KH Hair
  • Natasha Cameron, McIntyres

The rigorous audition process saw all entrants firstly submit an example of their work and a written entry demonstrating their knowledge of fashion and beauty trends, their passion for hairdressing and why they want to be part of the Generation NOW team, before moving on to the audition stage.

During the auditions, entrants were put through their paces in front of a panel of judges from Wella Professionals with guest judges from the Industry including:

  • Eoin Wright, Foundation
  • Gemma Galley, Volt Salon

Candidates had to prepare a model and present them to the judges demonstrating why they would make a great Generation NOW Team member. In the afternoon session entrants were given a brief which they had to recreate in a workshop to demonstrate their hairdressing skills.

Now the search for the Generation NOW team is over, this group of budding stars will experience the chance to work with and be inspired by numerous iconic hairdressers over the next year. Their year commences with an intensive Boot-camp week where the team will be mentored by hairdressing icons Claire Chell (Francesco Group), Dom Capel (Lara Johnson Lifestyle) and Jake Unger (HOB Salons).

They will also receive media training, product knowledge and presentation skills training.

The team will be involved with a busy schedule of exciting events and activities organised by Wella Professionals, to help them gain an invaluable insight into what it takes to work at the top echelons of the industry. Joseph shortlisted for North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year 2016

For four decades Hairdressers Journal International’s British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional has been raising the bar, and the profile of the talented, brightest lights in the booming industry that is hairdressing.  Today, a British Hairdressing Award is the most coveted prize in this multi-million pound industry which employs over 245,745 hairdressers in 35,000 salons across the UK.  To be a finalist is quite something; it takes a stand-out salon, a phenomenal creative talent and commitment to reach these final stages.  Today, the top hairdressers for 2016 have been named and Joseph Ferraro is one of just six finalists for North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year 2016.  The overall winner for this hotly contested category will be announced at the prestigious ceremony on the 28th November 2016 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, a J W Marriott Hotel in London’s prestigious Park Lane.

So, how did he do it? This iconic competition requires hairdressing professionals and artistic teams from across the country to create a photographic collection, initially of four images that showcase their creativity and technical ability.  These collections are displayed in a gallery for judging by more than 50 of the industry’s greatest hairdressers, all of whom are experts in their field.

Jayne Lewis-Orr, Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International commented, “Joseph should be very proud of his success in one of the most fiercely fought categories.  British hairdressing is regarded as the best in the world and to be a finalist for North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year is, without overstatement, a huge achievement. Each year the judges find choosing their finalists harder, proving that creativity and passion are stronger than ever, so we salute them in their success.”

The team is beyond excited and it is great for us to be finalists with some of the very best salons in the United Kingdom, it is a real honour.  We are in love with our pictures that represent the creative and colouring work that we do, day in and day out with our amazing clients,” Joseph Ferraro, Joseph Ferraro hair
